Archives Hub

Arvices Hub:

I'd forgotten how useful this site can be. Used it again recently when looking for recesources to support research:

"Hub (noun) A centre of activity or interest; a focal point."

"What is the Archives Hub? The Archives Hub provides a single point of access to descriptions of archival collections that are available for research in universities and colleges. Anyone may use the Hub. The Hub includes descriptions for the archives of a wide range of individuals, families, and organisations, from medieval times right up to the present day. The Archives Hub also forms one part of the UK's National Archives Network, alongside related networking projects.
To find out more about the Hub's background, see the Joint Information Systems Committee website, or the Hub special edition of Glasgow University Archive Services' newsletter.

Facebook: engaging with library users

There is an interesting link on Gerry McKiernan's blog on a recent survey carried out in the States on the uses of Facebook as a channel for engaging with library users.

"A total of 23% of respondents stated that *yes* or *maybe* they would be interested in contacting a librarian via these two social networking sites. Undergrads had a slightly higher than average percentage of 34%. Nearly half of the total respondents stated they would not beinterested, but for various reasons - the biggest reason being that they feel the current methods (in-person, email, IM) are more than sufficient. 14% said no because they felt it was inappropriate or that Facebook/MySpace is a social tool, not a research tool."
